Home of the Wizards – Originally known as the Westmount Warriors
Built in 1968, Westmount Avenue Public School was a small primary, French Immersion school with 92 students that went from Kindergarten to Gr. 2. The first classes of this open concept school were on March 24, 1969. Since then, we have put walls up for all our classes. Although the school was expected to be open January 3, 1969, classes did not start until March.
The boundaries at that time were 790 Patrick St; 789 & 790 Hildegarde; Westmount up to 807 on the west side, up to 812 on the east side; Danforth up to 797 on west side, up to 798 on the east side; Churchill up to 811 on the west side and up to 814 on the east side.
Temporary housing was set up September of 1968, students from Kindergarten to Primary 1 attended Churchill; Primary 2 & 3 attended Eden P.S. (now known as E.p. Jean Ethier Blais) and Gr.’s 4 to 6 attended Gemmell P.S. off Bancroft Dr. (housed in their own area of each location). The first Open House was held on Thursday, May 1, 1969.
