Background: Jessica Jaylyn Atsye is from the Laguna Pueblo Indigenous Tribe/Nation in New Mexico. She is the young founder of Rock Your Mocs Day. Since the time she launched the idea of ‚Rock Your Mocs Day in 2011, her message about the importance of Indigenous identity and the advantage of world-wide unity has been received globally. In this effort of identity movement and Indigenous unity, she encourages all Indigenous peoples to wear their moccasins on ‚Rock your Mocs Day. This gesture signifies an honour for cultural roots and the importance of identity. She also encourages our non-indigenous friends to join in the indigenous effort and wear their moccasins to also celebrate harmony through unity. Anishinaabemowin: The word moccasin originates from the Anishinaabemowin word “kiznan” which translates into the English word footwear.
